Week 28 The Water Is Wide (Cover) This is a cover of an old folk song. I really don't even know the origin of it other than the fact that it came out of the Old Town School songbook. I think it might be medieval or something. If anyone out there knows more about it, send me an email or post a comment. ©2003

Hi. Just found this info on "The Water is Wide (O Waly, Waly): "The song was originally 'Waly, Waly', but in the 19th century came to be known as 'The Water is Wide.' The song was published in 1724. 'O Waly, Waly' is sometimes reported to be part of a longer ballad, 'Lord Jamie Douglas.' However, 'Douglas' was first published by Herd (1776) where it states it is to be sung to the tune of 'Waly, Waly,'so it is fairly certain that 'Waly, Waly' is the earlier tune." (Found at www.contemplator.com/england/water) It's an old English folk song. It reminds me of a beautiful hymn.
